In 2001, Camp Pendleton, the largest base in the United States Marine Corp., required lighting along its many roadways and intersections. Bringing conventional electric power to the roadways was prohibitive. An initiative to select solar was developed by the Energy Management group at Camp Pendleton. A solar roadway solution was provided by Sol and the first group of pole mounted solar lights were installed along very dangerous curved sections of the roadway. Today there are over 400 solar powered lighting units installed along the various roadways and intersections throughout Camp Pendleton.
